Myron Brown Appreciation Event

Event Description - Myron Brown Appreciation Event
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University men's basketball program will honor its all-time leading scorer, Myron Brown, as part of the November 21 home game vs. Bloomsburg, second-year Rock head coach Kevin Reynolds announced today.

"Myron Brown holds a very special place in Rock men's basketball history," Reynolds said, "and we want to honor him for his role in taking The Rock to the top of the PSAC and regional charts."

Behind Brown's lead, The Rock earned berths in the 1990 and 1991 NCAA Division II Eastern Regional tournaments and played in four consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference postseason tournaments. SRU was the conference runner-up in Brown's senior season.

The 1989-90 and 1990-91 teams both won 23 games, which still stands as the highest win total in school history. The 2008-09 team coached by Reynolds neared that win total en route to an appearance in the conference semifinals, finishing with an overall record of 21-8.

Brown is expected to be joined by several of his Rock teammates and coaches during the November 21 festivities.

Brown scored 2,619 points during his four-year Rock career, which ran from 1987-91. He capped off his career by earning Basketball Times' national Player of the Year honor in 1991, a season in which he averaged a school-record 26.7 points per game. His career scoring average of 22.5 points per game is also a school record, as is the 826 points he scored in his senior season. His career-best single-game total of 46 points as a senior vs. California (Pa.) is the second highest in school history,

"Myron Brown Appreciation Night" will be one of three such events The Rock men will hold during the 2009-10 season. Troy Mild, the No. 2 scorer in Rock history, will be honored at the Feb. 13 game against Edinboro. Bill Rausch, the No. 4 scorer in school history, will be spotlighted Feb. 20 vs. Clarion.

A reception will be held for all guests and alumni at the Russell Wright Alumni House immediately after the SRU vs. Bloomsburg University basketball game at 5:30 p.m. Food and refreshments will be served. Cost is only $6 per person. Game tickets can be purchased at the Morrow Field House the day of the game.
